Windscreen washer fluid

Featured Replies

I have just bought a 1 litre container of Skoda/VAG 'Windscreen Clear' which is claimed to be enough for a whole year's supply. However, there are no instructions on how to use or how much to dilute. It comes with a 15ml measure.

Does anyone know how this should be used and whether it is suitable for the headlamp washers as well?

Towards the bottom at the rear of the bottle it has a bottle symbol along with water tear drops representing the ratios. I recently got some from the local VW dealer.

My Part number: G 052 164 A2

I used 500ml fluid to 1000ml water

Assumong this is the white bottle with the turquoise top.

Seems a bit optimistic to me on a years supply, maybe if you only do a few thousand miles.

Any how in summer its one part washer to four parts water, ie one litre of screenwash makes five litres to put in the tank. This is fine for the headlight washers.

Well I have done 6,000 miles in 8 months and just topped it up - so I think if you do around 12,000 a year this is probably a years supply using a 2 parts water to 1 part fluid. You are correct though it wouldn't do a whole year of 1litre of fluid to 4 parts water.

At the end of the day its going to cost me

I have had some proper Skoda washer fluid which was 1:100 (yes, 1 to hundred parts water). It came in a bottle about the size of a tube of toothpaste.

If you're not sure, it might be worth asking the garage?

Many thanks for the responses. I think I'll use a 1:3 ratio which should be ok for uk summer and winter.

There is no way that 1 bottle will last me a whole year, i think i've gone through at least 6 bottles of the stuff. I generally use half a bottle of fluid in a full tank.

In the summer i find you can use about half a bottle of wash in a 5L tank in the old car and it still cleaned just fine.

In the winter it is IIRC 1.5-2 bottles in the tank and if you drive serious miles that 5L might last a week or two.

I don't usually change the concentration for the time of year, half a bottle per tank seems to do just fine. Too much and it can leave white streaks behind. That concentration doesn't freeze at all in the cold weather.

The rear door pockets are ideal storage for the VAG lemon washer fluid bottles as well as the 1ltr oil bottles (both essential for my 2.0TDI)
