Clutch Master and Slave cylinders

Featured Replies

I appear to have suffered a common problem with the clutch pedal sticking down but engine hot and town driving at the time. It only happened once and lifting pedal up with my toe restored normal opeartion.

From reading other posts it would seem the master cylinder is the fault but some posts mention dealers changing both cylinders and another says modified master cylinder are now supplied.

It is a 1.9 Tdi 2000 model.

Does anyone no know the exact fault and what has been modifed in the master cylinder.

Before you go changing it take off the black lower panel around the pedals (three t20 torx screws iirc). Follow the clutch pedal back to the master cylinder (connected by a brass coloured rod). You can see where the rod goes into the body of the cylinder. Spray some white (PTFE) grease into the body and work backwards and forwards. This should sort it (and basically all the modified cylinder is just the same with lube in it). This should stop it sticking.
