Jumbo box, Ipod and OEM Radio

Featured Replies

Firstly, hello everyone, I am new to the forums.

I am about to take delivery (17th May) of a lovely new Race Blue TFSI VRS Octy and I have a question, which I am hoping someone can help me with.

I have specced the Jumbo Box upgrade with the car (well, why wouldn't you, as it is a free upgrade at the moment) which comes, along with other things, with a 3.5mm jack socket.

The question is this....can I plug my iPod into this, and control it through the OEM Radio, or am I still going to need something like the Dension II kit ?

If I still need a Dension kit, how hard are they to fit ?

This post might be better suited to the ICE forum, but I thought I'd ask here first.

Cheers for any replies.

Hello and welcome.

All of your questions have been answered before and you'llfind them using the search.

In brief - the 3.5mm jack is exactly that, no control for Ipod. There is an OEM version of the Denison kit, pictures on my website. Also a member has recently had a newer type of Denison unit fitted and has written a good review, which again the search should turn up.

Many thanks VRStu. I've got some more reading to do then :)

Had to take the VRS with Active Head Restraints option for a an extra

Sounds like a reasonable option.

You just need a 3.5mm jack socket at each end type of cable, plug one end into the aux socket in the jumbo box, the other in to the headphone socket on your ipod, go to the aux in bit on your head unit and press play on your ipod, all the controlling needs to be done via your ipod though apart from volume.

Thanks to all for the replies. I've been reading some more since my post too, which has helped too :)

Going to try using the iPod through the 3.5 jack till I see how irritating or otherwise it is to use it like that. I also like half decent sound quality (not interested in SPL setups with mad Subs or anything - prefer quality over volume and big bass) and am looking at probably fitting an Alpine head unit in due course. Liked the look of the new IDA x001 and would be interested to hear comments about it from anyone that has one.

What's the sound quality like from the existing OEM unit and speakers by the way ?
