Fabia VRS Radio...

Featured Replies

Hey Guys and Girls,

Is it me or is the radio in the Fabia VRS rubbish?

I cannot get the radio to display the

Pull it out and replace it with an aftermarket one like most do.

You'll need a cage as the Symphony doesn't use one and also the proper facia plate (

Try to manual tune the radio till the Radio 1 name appears in the display and then store it in one of program buttons, and see if the name stays. If the strength of the FM signal ( and the RDS Program Service Name Code - which transmits the station name that shows on the radio display) is not so strong, it will show only as a frequency on the display.

Unless theres been a design change to the Symphony, dont think theres an option to switch between the display station name or just display the frequency, I know some radios have this option.

Is RDS turned on?

Have you tried reading the manual?

"Tom_vrs" how can you turn RDS on or off?

"tonto_kowalski" have you read the manual for the radio? Its just as bad as the radio its self!!!

Any help guys would be really appreciated.

Has any one else had this problem?

Cheers

Stuff the radio. ANY radio tbh, and just enjoy the peace and tranquility of being on your own like I do most of the time.

Too much music and noise everywhere you go now, or am I just getting old? :D

I can't remember, its been a year since I got rid of my vRS! Its in the menu somewhere... the manual really is your friend here!!! :)

I think the radio is actually quite good. better than the one is my renault clio '03

depends what you want from it. it does what it was made to do very well. basic is the word, like "extra value" lemonade!

Was kind of hoping for some help on here?

Hello,

I need some help. Had a Parrot hands free fitted in the new ltd edition yesterday at Halfords (as the handsfree unit i brought came with free fitting).........i can safely say they messed everything up! They have broken my factory fitted stereo (pushed on the LCD screen and it has 'bled' they drilled through one of the plastic buttons next to heated rear window etc (above the stereo) but failed to fit the handsfree accept/reject button properly so it is hanging off!!!!

Halfords said they would replace my stereo if the LCD screen doesnt come back to normal and what i want to know is

1. Can you get replacement 'buttons' (the ones that sit above the steroe and have rear heated window etc) so i can repalce the one whcih has been drilled and have the handsfree accept/reject call button moved to where you turn the head lights on so it is not such an eyesaw

2. Waht should i do about the stereo, anyone got any reccomendations or should i just get them to give me money and have a replacement fitted by Skoda?

Would appreciate if someone can get back to me on the 'buttons' as i am not a happy bunny with how it has been installed and want to get the car back to how it was before i let those monkeys 'try and install the handsfree!

Thanks,

As above, read the manual several times even though it's rubbish. RDS comes on when the signal strength is strong enough I've found. Try manually tuning it up a little as Radio 1 for us is about 99.4

WTF??? How to Hi-jack someone elses thread! How about starting your own fresh one?

That's really rude.

The Symphony gets my vote, too! Perfectly adequate, considering I only listen to it whilst driving (and hence with background noise) rather than having it turned up to full playing bangin' drum 'n' bass in a ragamuffin stylee innit while I sit parked in Currys car park at 10:30 in the evening... ;)

Ought to be far less nick-able, too! (Famous last words...)

I never thought the manual was that bad, either... Sounds to me like you've got it set so that it hangs onto the frequency for grim death, rather than hunting for a stronger signal. IIRC, press and hold the AS button (?) to access the setup menus, press < or > to scroll through to 'LOC', and then turn the volume dial to toggle between 'on' and 'off'. I think you need to have LOC off to have it hunt automatically for the strongest signal. As for having RDS on or off, you need to look whether 'TP' is displayed in small letters at the TOP of the screen. I don't think you can turn it off as such, but if it's there, then the signal strength is high enough that you should see the name of the station. This isn't the same as having TP showing at the LEFT of the screen, which is the setting where it interrupts whatever you're listening to to bring you traffic reports that are invariably incomprehensible and/or out-of-date. But I digress!

I have to agree too. I thought about fitting a better headunit, but can't be bothered with the hassle of carrying the front panel around whenever I go anywhere! The standard unit sounds a lot better than some I've experienced!

Well its not a bad unit but im getting very frustrated as i cannot get it to display the name of the radio station.

The signal for the station is perfect and it still will not display it for any stations

Has anyone else had this problem?

Only intrested in advice not whether its a good unit or not

Cheers

First of all why have you jacked this guys thread?

Secondly why did you refer to the nice employees of halfords as monkeys! we are not monkeys. we are all fully trained to MIT standards and some beyond ;) Did you specify that you wanted the parrot controller fitting above the headlight switch?

i am not trying to make excuses for your damaged lcd, at the end of the day **** happens and if they have offered to replace why not just take them up on the offer and ask for a nice aftermarket one like a kenwood or an alpine etc.

no offence intended, just making my point.

My advice like chrispys is to do away with the old skoda cd unit and get yourself a nice aftermarket one. my reasons are

1)will sound better

2)if you get an mp3 compatible one u could listen to mp3 cds.

3) if you get a face off one you can remove it when required for security

4)Go for an alpine 9846r or equivelent, because they have green backlights to match ur furbys dash and have a black face so dont look out of place on the dash.

I tryed and tryed to get the orginal skoda one to display the station name. in the end i just gave up and changed it for a sony dvd player

I don't think "Teok" will be doing that again.

I think im going to have to replace it with an aftermarket one. I just don't want anything to look to out of place.

Im going to pop into Skoda Colchester after work and see if they can help, if not off to Halfords!!

"Skudmissile" from what I have experienced from halfords you guys are great, very helpfull and know your stuff!!

Would be good to know how many other people have had this problem??

TBH, I haven't read all of these threads, but if it hasn't been suggested hit the 'SCAN' button, it should search for all the station within range, and hopefully pull up RDS for them.

IIRC theres an option to switch RDS on/off in the menu.

Damn right....Halfrauds employees are great. (John, can I borrow your VAG-COM please? :D :D )

To be honest, mine was 'iffy' when it came to displaying Radio Station names.

It depended strongly on station strength and even then it made up its own mind.

I only had it in a week and I missed my MP3's so much it had to go.

"tim" I cannot find anywhere in the setup menu which allows you to turn RDS on or off?

Im going to call into Skoda and ask them but I feel a wally as a radio should be simple to use!?!?

This is nothing to do with the radio and it has been covered on here before but i asked Skoda the other day if I could have an audible sound when the car is locked and unlocked or the alarm is activated and de activated and they told me this is not possible.

Is this the case?

Cheers guys!!

tell them they dont know what they are on about! you can set it to beep beep on unlock and beep on lock easily with the vag computer or vag com.

  • Author

I did think that was the case. I was told that it was not possible to do that and that was the end of that!

Could I go to Volkswagen or Audi and ask them to do it for me?

Do you have this on your car "skudmissile" ?

Ive just been out to the radio for another go and its just not happening!

Bloody thing
