MAF - checking for grease from air filter

Featured Replies

I took my MAF sensor out last night to check to see if there was any build up of grease/oil from the PiperCross panel filter I am using. Where specifically on the MAF should I check? I inspected it closely and couldn't find any.

The component itself looked a bit like a wireless card you'd put in a laptop and appeared to have a small intake (about 1 cm wide) into which I assume the air flows for it to be measured. I assume around this intake is the place to check?

why would there be grease/oil from the pipercross panel filter?

The foam is greasy to the touch so I assume the filter is oil based.

If the MAFF looks fine and you are experiencing no problems with the car then the chances are there is nothing to be concerned about, I had an oiled K&N on for quite a while and experienced no trouble whatsoever!.

On a side note, it's worth running VAG-COM from time to time just to see if there have been any fault codes as this will tend to put the mind at rest.

Yes on balance the ignorance is bliss policy is sometimes better:rofl:

But the Pipercross is a dry foam filter..
