Installing my Pioneer satnav

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Well, my vRS TDi Estate is on course for delivery in the first week of June. This has lead me to start thinking about my ICE install.

Currently, I have a Pioneer AVIC-X1 and an Empeg installed in the double DIN slot in my Superb. I'm looking to replicate this install in the vRS, and have been searching the forums to get some answers.

So far, I've come up with the following requirements:

1) Double DIN fascia adapter (will have to be the Autoleads one, as the Skoda is single DIN).

2) CANBUS adapter (to get ignition, speed pulse, reverse signal etc.)

3) Aerial adapter (to provide power for the aerial amp)

Here's where it starts to get a bit fuzzy for me.

I think I've settled on the Blaupunkt CANBUS adapter, as it seems to regenerate all of the signals that I need for the satnav. However, from looking at pictures, it also appears that it might contain the aerial adapter and also provide adaption from the quadlock to standard ISO for the power and speakers. Can anyone with this adapter confirm if this is true?

Secondly, the CANBUS adapter would appear to negate the need to wire up an additional power connection to fuse box position 9. Is this true?

Finally, I seem to remember seeing some pictures of how to remove the lower trim, in particular how you get the headlamp switch apart. However, despite my searches, I can't find them any more. Does anyone know where I might find these images?

(I'm guessing this might be a redundant question, if the CANBUS adapter does what I suspect it might).

As part of my new install, I'm also planning on installing an XBox running XBMC for my media needs. I've got some nice wireless controllers, and a suitable car PSU, so I ought to be able to take both gaming and my XVids on the move. :D

Any help with these questions would be most appreciated.

Bagpuss.
