1.6 conversion?

Featured Replies

WAs reading a thread from a while ago and left me wondering are u able to put a supercharage on a 1.6??

or am i jus being stupid?

If so can u list some details please

many thanks

yes.... it can be done... and turbocharging too

but you would have to spend a small fortune uprating the engine internals to make it reliable..

how much have you got to spend??

there is a lot of advertising blurb in there......

your felicia will have the magnetti-marelli 1AV or 1AW engine management system which uses a MAP sensor on the left hand end of the intake manifold to determine the amount of 'pressure' in the intake manifold, but this sensor is only intended for natural aspiration and will only give out reading upto normal atmospheric pressure, so any pressure charging(if any) from this wouldn't be registered by the engine management, so it could lead to an overlean fuel mixture.. to be honest, you need an awefull lot of air to pressure charge an engine, for a 1.6 litre engine you need approximately the same amount of air it takes to fill a transit van every second to give you around 7psi or pressure, and i'd doubt very much if an electric fan mounted in the intake can supply that amount of air!

nevertheless, there still may be a little bit of gain from using a device like this, it's possible it could increase the volumetrc effieciency of the engine a little, but it aint gonna set your world on fire..

pound for pound you'd be better off buying a sports camshaft

oops sorry I spoke

oops sorry I spoke

why is that answer not good enough for you??

anyway. in answer to the original post... there are centrifugal supercharger kits available for this engine from rotrex, they come with all the brackets and oil resvoir/pipes/pump and an intercooler.. iirc they are about

Teflon...I know you and I hit it off on the wrong foot, but wouldn't the lambda probe have enough headroom to compensate for the lean mixture. I think it would up to the point of the injectors not being big enough, and I dont think it will reach those dizzy heights

that's good point about the lambda probe..

it will compensate for a lean mixture upto a certain point, but after that it will just throw up an error because it will assume that there is something wrong..

the injectors would be ok upto a certain point too, there is enough extra capacity in the injectors for around 20% increase in power

oops sorry I spoke

dont worry about it chap. tom,s always telling me i'm wrong (but in my case i usualy am wrong)

The problem would be a lambda probe as a working range, if its stuck at the top of a range trying to compensate for something then its not working properly. You would probably find even if you put a wider band lambda probe in the injectors wouldn't be able to flow the required ammount of fuel.

hide!!! he's found us.
