Fabia Power Folding Mirrors?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I live in west London, not much space to drive let alone park.. every night I flip my mirrors in to save them from whacks... (that is, ones I haven't caused my self....)

My question is, can u mod the fabia mirrors to power flip like bigger cars (and small citroens) my mates C2 has it as standard equiptment?? does it on key insertion and retraction.. clever... shame bout the rest of the car.

Does the superb have them and if so, will those mirrors bolt stright on if removed from the mount.. or is all the gizmo power stuff in the mount on the door.

what about other VAG cars? Audi mirrror conversion?

3rd party options?

Anyone know anything on this subject?

Taa,

Rob!

I'm part-way through a project to add an RC servo to a standard Fabia mirror to get it to power-fold. In my case I need the passenger mirror to fold with the engine running so I can get into my garage without clouting the mirror.

Cool, where did ya get the servo, it must be kinda powerful to overcome the located position clip?.. is there much room in the mirror housing to stick a motor/servo into then?

Rob..

The plan at the moment is to Dremel away the stops at the fixed positions, and weaken the star washer which tensions the spring. Not got round to working out how much space there is yet: if you re-located the tweeters you might create some room on the inside.

Iam looking at putting the Golf/ old passat mirriors on mine. Just waiting for the VW dealer to ring me back about motors switch's and a bit like bryand can you fold one in etc etc.

That would be superb if you got it to work!

I do love folding mirrors! Especially if you could somehow get them to fold/unfold on lock/unlock, like a Merc :)

Suppose the Leon route might be worth pursuing? I'm sure they're the same sort of mirrors, and wasn't fold standard on the Cupra?

Looks like a trip to seat at the weekend:)

Hmmm, might not be that straightforward after all chaps! Just been scanning SCN and it seems a new wiring loom is required, and then somehow integrate that into the existing. Suffice to say, I didn't find any threads pointing to a successful retrofit!

E.g. see Electric Folding Mirrors - SEAT Cupra.net

WHERE THEREs a will theres a WAY.

Of course, and I'd be interested to know how you get on.

Scouring a scrapyard for something like a 2001 Leon Cupra would be my best bet. Toledos also had them fitted, pretty much across the board IIRC. With the Leon it seems to be a bit hit and miss by all accounts...
