Noisy Xbox 360

Featured Replies

For those who have not read the saga in my other thread, my near 18 month old 360 premium brokedown last week so I ordered a new core pack to replace it as I didnt need the HD etc because I already had those. So, new console arrived yesterday but the fans in this one seem much noiser than the launch console, even on idle you can hear them whirring away. The launch machine on the other hand is much quieter unless working hard, when the fans were quiet audible. Seems to be common, and not a problem after reading about other users on other forums having the same noise issue with newer machines. If I cant fix the broken console, I may well break the warranty on the new one to swap the fans over along with the chrome bits on the front.

How loud are your 360s, just after you turn them on.

mines about 14 month old and is very noisy:O so long as it isn't your old fans that caused your breakdown

They may have changed to a cheaper fan or to a ball bearing based fan rather than sleeve bearing to make it more reliable..

Fans do tend to settle down a bit after a couple of hours of use too. Does the XBox 360 use PWM to regulate fan speed and if so maybe the software is set differently on new ones because of the problems with older ones overheating.

manny please think this through, do you think there is a possibility that the new console has larger and or faster running fans so that the console doesn't implode like the original one did ;)

if you stick the old fans in it will probably blow up again leaving you with no warranty and two broken consoles.

i would have bought an old xbox now with the elite about to be launched. i cant wait 4 it to get the bigger hd and the hdmi cable and it will be black 2 :) (i really want the HDMI cable to get the most from my 1080p tv and the HDDVD player) mine will be traded in as soon as its launched
