I have read somewhere that it is a good idea to use a thicker grade gearbox oil when running a SMF on the 02M gearbox, thus reducing the noises on tickover from the shafts etc.....

Although that's what I have read - I found that it was actually bit quieter changing to the VAG OEM G52 stuff from an obviously heavier-looking 80W90 synthetic....
