PD130 - Is it broken!? HELP!

Featured Replies

Hi

Over the past couple of days this problem has started, and gradually got worse!

  • Smoke - it's putting out loads of black smoke now but I can drive round it if I take it very easy. Car was cleaned yesterday and the back is already black with soot now! When I booted it before I first realised I couldn't see anything in the rear view mirror hardly!
  • Noise- you can really hear the turbo spooling up now, especially in 4th, 5th, and 6th at lowish revs - so much so you can hear it over the loudish music inside!
It now also 'dumps' in any gear but again more noticeable in higher hears.
Sometimes if the revs are right its more of a loud 'gulping' noise if that makes sense!
  • Performace - has definetly been affected. Not so much in 1st-3rd but certainly after that. It seems to struggle under load - dropping MPH going up hills where it previously didn't.
  • Economy - also been affected but not by loads

Car has done 55k. Can anyone help??

I've been told maybe an intercooler pipe or something? Hopefully nothing serious?

Any help ASAP much appreciated as I don't want to continue driving it if it may cause (more) damage.

Thanks :)

Hopefully for you, just an intercooler hose split or even better, just come off. Perhaps jack it up (safely!!) and have a look underneath to see if anything obviously loose.

May not be obvious though, especially if it's a split rather than a hose come clean off.

Good luck

does sound like a split or lose pipe to me :)

If it's not the intercooler pipe, could it be the MAF?

Chris

Could be sticky VNT vanes.

Great, thanks for all the replies so far, keep them coming!

I will have a look for any lose connections etc shortly.

How can I check the MAF, disconnect it or something?

Sticky VNT vanes? Doesn't sound too good?

Search on here or Google for VNT vanes, you'll find a lot of info.

Bad fuel maybe ......try some of the good stuff and see what happens, filled up at asda and the car was awful smoke, sluggish, noisy, put some shell diesel in yesterday and it's a different car
