VRS Flashing Glow Plug Light

Featured Replies

Over the weekend I have picked up a fault on my Fabia VRS and am now having the flashing glow plug light on the dashboard.

Its been a bit intermittent over the weekend but today it seems to have come on to stay.

I'v read on here that its possibly an indication of a break bulb fault of a break switch fault.

I'v checked the break lights and all seem to be working.

This afternoon i happened to be in Nottingham with a the light Flashing as I drove past Farmers so i decided to call in and see what they had to say.

They checked the break lights and suggested that I should get it in to the workshop for the diagnostics kit to be plugged in but unfortunatly they were unable to do it there and then and as they are not my local dealer and I was in a rush I decided to leave it.

I'v now contacted my Local dealer who have told me they are un able to to book the car in until 5th June to have it looked at for the fault to be diagnosed. I'm a litle dissapointed at this service form my dealer as I would have expected something to be done a little sooner.

In the mean time I have noticed that while the fault light is flashing the cruise control does not work any more, is this likely to be related?

I'm wanting to get this problem sorted out soon as the car is coming upto 3 years old shortly and the warrenty expires in June.

Any advice?

Almost certainly the brake switch, cruise control relies on it to disable it when the brake pedal is pressed, if the brake switch doesn't work....cruise won't work either !

Yep, brake light switch. Mine went today, joy of joys, just after all the dealers parts / service dept's closed. You will also notice that the brake no longer overrides the throttle when the two are pressed together.

Downside is that as a driving instruction car, I lose a lot of money this weekend. Upside is can heel 'n toe it now:mad:

I had a similar problem after a pupil stalled the car. Took to the dealer and it was diagnosed as an engine speed sensor. Changed under warranty.

You could buy the sensor and fit it yourself. Pretty sure they are sub

Take the car back to your local dealer and don't leave until it's fixed. Tell them it's a safety issue. My Vrs is on its third brakelight switch in three and a half years. The first time mine was fixed they somehow disconnected the dash lights, I went back and they said they couldn't fit me in for two weeks! I went ballistic telling them it wasn't safe to drive at night and they reluctantly agreed to fix it there and then. Needless to say I don't use them anymore.

Hi Stu

Thanks to fordfan I now have a sensor (purple one), but not really keen on removing the under dash plastics, I have no idea what holds them on or how they remount. I understand fitting the switch requires a wriggling operation of masonic handshake complexity too if one is not to lunch the switch when fitting it.

May have another look tomorrow if it stops raining. Failing that, will try to get it done under warranty (hopefully with the latest green switch) on Tuesday morning. At least if they dont have the part in stock, I have one. Luckily I managed to blag the school spare car today.

Thanks for that Stu. It is p!ssing down out there at the moment and I already have an awkward job to do on the MR2 so will try and get garage to do it under warranty tomorrow. If they can't at least I can now do it myself.
