My car is mental

Featured Replies

Started up the other morning and drove down to the end of my drive and put the passenger window down as I always do, to hear what's coming (blind exit ya see)...........thing is.....the drivers window came down.

I think to myself......"ah...hit the wrong switch", so I pushed the passenger one again, but nothing happened. Pushed the drivers side switch and down went the passenger side window!!

Checked them both again and they were operating the opposite windows to what they should.

Checked the mirror switch and it was doing the same!!

Now........my mirror switch went mental not so long ago and instead of operating mirrors independently, the "R" position operates both and the "L" position operates the passenger side only. It didn't used to do this, but it remains that way to this day.

Anyway.....I went shopping and when I got back in the car again, the windows were back to normal!!!

These Fabias are FOOKIN MENTAL!! Dodgepot electrics or what?????

Just sometimes does it. Stop the car, switch if off, remove key and restart it. Always comes back normal then. :D

never had that fault , but the other day i couldn't open the boot , so released the rear seat backs to get in the boot area , then the boot release started working again , doh

Those damned Czech poltergeists!!!

I've had this a few times on my 2001 Comfort, it got serious when the boot wouldn't lock, the dealers replaced the convenience unit (I think that was what it was called) and it was OK for a while, it went again and they replaced it again, been ok since, probably 3 years now.

When I bought my '04 vRS they had to replace the electric mirror switch... then the control unit... then the convenience ECU... and it's still not right!! I didn't notice until my wife was changing the mirrors to drive - when you try to move the left mirror, both move, but try to move the right one, only the right one moves. I'd never noticed because I always move the left mirror first, but my wife was getting frustrated because she moves the right one first, and wondered why the left one kept looking wrong!

Dodgy electrics - just one of a growing list of minor frustrations. It's a great car to drive, but a frustrating one to own!

Seen the window electrics bug, also watch out for the following leccy window bug:-

I was on motorway doing speed limit with both front windows open for about 3 miles, after exiting M'way on route to home decided to close windows, doing 30, and flicked 1 touch to close passenger, worked ok, did the same for drivers window, this closed to the top, then immediately re-opened to 3/4 down and stopped , one flick did nothing but window would close if I held button.

Found once i had stopped, switched off, removed key, then put key back in and turned to start electrics, everything reset back o.k. this fortunately is not a regular hiccough, so can live with it. Modern electronics :D

It's a common VAG gremlin. My Bora used to do the same occasionally although it never seemed to affect the rear windows for some reason.
