exhaust problem

Featured Replies

hello everybody,i have just become a new member.

i am driving a 56 plate octavia vrs in red and it has developed a problem with the exhaust ( the rear silencer ) ,the problem is it sounds terrible at around 3000-3500rpm,its not burst or vibrating of the heat shield,i cant discribe the noise the noise properly,it just sounds really bad ,when it started it came and went so when i went to the dealer it sounded perfect but it has started doing it all the time now.the car has just past the 3000 mile mark and i was just wondering if anybody else has got the same problem.also i have ticking coming from the engine when it is idling, been told its the charcoal filter, dont know if it is or not.

a possible cause for a rattling silencer maybe a loose baffle inside

hello there thanks for the reply. about the loose baffle is it fixable by myself or is it going to have to be a new exhaust, because it does sound like something vibrating inside the the backbox.

I'd agree that a broken baffle (or several) is possible. The bad news is that there's no way of replacing a baffle on a production car exhaust; the good news is that on a 56 plate car it's still covered by the warranty (well unless there's a big bash in the box).

no there is no bash in the box,i just hope that when i get to the dealer it still makes the noise because some times after being on the motorway it stops.anyway thanks for the replies

that may be because the heat expands it a bit when the exhaust flow is higher so it stop rattling kinda.... if that makes any sense??

Cant be of help sorry, but Welcome to Briskoda.
