Centre Vent rattle??

Featured Replies

I have an annoying rattle in my new L&K that seems to be coming from the centre vents above the sat nav unit. I get it when the engine vibrates during acceleration.

My old Octy didn't rattle even after 100k!

Any ideas what this is? Might help when I phone the dealer.

You can remove the central vent/storage cubby unit quite easily. It simply pops out when prised upwards from the front with a suitable object so as not to damage the dash, beware the hazard warning switch cable as it's fairly short.

Then you can see where the rattle is coming from with a bit of luck.

I have exactly the same rattle, and havn't thought of removing it and taking another drive.

I suspect it is to do with all the extra stuff I have behind it.

1. GPS Arial

2. Nokia Brain

3. Telemute box

4. Dension iPod

I've had this since the second day of owning my new VRS. The dealer investigated and found a bent metal bar in the mechanism of the tray in the top of the dash. I suspect this was caused by my 3yr old's heavy handed repeated opening and closing of the tray. However, it's back again as of yesterday. I'll be watching this thread for any ideas. I think this is a weak point in the car. A colleague who has a brand new Passat is also complaining of this kind of rattle from behind the dash. Apparently the dealer has had the whole dash out and not found anything.

I also had a MK1 Octavia L&K - 90K miles without so much as a squeak. Read into it what you will...

Back from my holidays and after a few short trips after driving a rental car I soon noticed this is also still happening to me.

Perhaps we should start a Poll - I'd do it, but can seem to find the place to start it ?
