Octy II - Ash-tray lid won't close

Featured Replies

As title - the lid of the ash tray on my Octy won't stay closed.

I know the tray itself pulls out for emptying, but this is in position as normal.

Where is the catch mechanism?

Edit: I had a go at prising off the centre trim around the radio and heater controls last week in anticipation of changing to the silver one (http://www.briskoda.net/forums/new-octavia/did-small-mod-evening-my-octy/76531/?highlight=centre+trim). Could I have knocked / damaged the ash tray mechanism when I did this?

Is it getting trapped on the bottom of the Stereo surround/facsia ?

Sorry - I guess what I should have said is that it closes but doesn't stay closed. But I will check the fascia again just in case - I've added that I had been messing with it!

a trip to the dealers?

Have you had a look underneath the gearstick surround - perhaps that's where the catch is ?

Had mine replaced not so long ago, Its alittle spring that has snaped easy job done under warrenty.

You can remove the whole ashtray, mechanism, lid the works. To remove it, with the ashtray open, grasp the plastic trim for the gearstick surround and tug on this, the trim should come away completely. Lift it up towards the top of the gear leaver, you should then see 2 x Torx screws. Remove these 2 screws, and gently pull the whole ashtray forward, you may need to wiggle it a bit.

Thanks chaps - I will have another quick look at lunchtime today - but its sounding like something for the to-do list next time its at the stealers.

Mine has stopped closing. I did manage to put out the whole assemble but still I can quite see why the cover does not hold shut.

I think something had snapped off - I mentioned mine when the car was in for its service a few weeks ago and it was replaced under waranty without any problem.
