Flooding

Featured Replies

Don't know if anyone else experienced flooding in Fife after the rain on Thursday. Came across quite a big stretch of flooded road on the A921. Normal flood driving technique applied - high engine speed, steady road speed, maintain the bow wave - don't overtake it etc. etc.

All going well until there was a sudden dip in the road. Huge jet of water jumps up and deposits itself over the windscreen, next thing water's pouring into the footwells through the air vents. Had to carry on but then the interior filled with steam from the water in the heater matrix. Couldn't see anything so had to stop. When I started again you could hear the fan blades paddling in the water!!

Assume this happend because of the amount of water on the windscreen. Pretty sure that the drain holes are OK because I don't normally have a problem e.g. when washing the car.

Drove round for two days with the heater on full and the air con on to take the moisture out. All seems fine now and I can't think that it's done any lasting damage (unless anyone wants to suggest any).

Handy to know for the future though that this happens. Can't think of a way to prevent it though!

The deluge on the screen was obviously more than the drain holes could deal with. It will dry out soon enough though.

Might also be worth checking the state of your air filter too (especially if it's a paper one) as it may not be working as efficiently as it was :D
