Mods & Warranty The Big Question

Featured Replies

I read very often the worries that people have about modifying their cars and the effect the mods have on their warranties

Alot of people are very open on this forum about the upgrades

The question I want to ask is:

Has anyone every had a warranty claim refused on the grounds of modification??

i've voted no...but she's in next week for a fault code... so might be back to change it.....

no, but I've never modded

^^ thats helpful :D

Not had a problem either.. Replaced engine coolant bottle on mine, it started to leak the day after it got touched by an angel.

I've almost had something not fixed due to using WOT to 4Krpm

Yes my turbo went pop and they refused a warranty claim as it had no oil but then said even if it wasn't the oil I modified my car without authorisation from my dealer so it would've been refused anyway. Easy way out I say, it just depends if you want to give them a reason to say no. Also apparently the dealer looked at the turbo and said it was the bearing at fault however when the car was taken to get repaired elsewhere they said they can see the turbo had not been taken off and it wasn't the bearing that's gone it was the impeller shaft (I think) had been snapped in half. Goes to show they'll tell you it's something it's not in order to cover their own backs. Just my experience of course.

I modified my car without authorisation from my dealer so it would've been refused anyway.

This is very interesting and implies that if you go to your dealer and say "I'm planning on remapping with xyz company, is that ok?" and they say yes, that this would not invalidate the manufacturer warranty offered by Skoda? I wonder if the dealer would provide that in writing..........

Chris

Well Skoda CS said over the phone that I didn't get written authorisation, but I bet if you did ask they'd just say no as then responsibility would be put on them to fix it if SUK denied. I actually laughed when they said about getting authorisation, but who knows maybe there's a dealer out there who's mod friendly and would do this.

I haven't had to make a warranty claim! :D

Dealer sold me mine already modded so no problems, has been in since to get the dreaded leaky doors fixed.

Had my 'service schedule' come on too early. The dealer refused to reset it cos I had it serviced elsewhere
