Oh no another tyre thread!

Featured Replies

Just had the fronts and rears swapped over on the Furby (vRS), and whilst at the tyre bay was having a nose round the showroom and saw the various tyres mentioned alot on here.

Will be looking to change all 4 in abount 3-4 months, and have kind of decided on either Toyo Proxies T1-R's or Yokohama Parada Spec-2, but have a couple of questions for those running these.

Not looking for you should be running these or those comments or info on other tyres.

Basically just interested in whether or not you get alot of tyre noise from either of these, and how well they are wearing/lasting.

And with the Parada's do you find any compromise in the way they handle, eg better turning left than right, given the 3/4 tyre width asymetric pattern?

Thanks

Mark

I have Proxes, and they're certainly quieter than the Premacies it came with. Wear is slightly worse, but grip is much better. As for the Yokohamas, assymetric tyres have an 'inside' and an 'outside', so the ones on the nearside are the other way round to the ones on the offside. This will cancel out any grip-related steering effect...

I'm running Avon's on my fronts and TBH they're noisy as fook so was thinking of getting Proxes next time. I've read nothing but good things about them.

It was either that or return back to the standard Michelins which have served me well but apparently their grip is a little shoddy in comparison. :S

Toyos are a lot quieter than my Original Michelins and the Dunlops that were fitted after them , but the front Toyos on mine are knackered after less than 3k due to some excessive track abuse last week

I have the Parada spec 2's and they are a great dry tyre, oodles of grip, not bad in the (full) wet, very predictable give point, damp they are not quite as good and in the cold they are a nightmare (<3oC)

Once the tread is down to 3mm they are useless but thats a pretty good time to change anyway.

Road noise, yes, not tonnes but it is a noticable increase, I am running 215/40/17's though, and also uprated bushes/suspension so it'll all add up. I certainly will get them again (3rd set now) but I use alternatives in the winter.

I cant say i notice a benefit turning in either direction with the design, possibly in the wet, but I dont take the tyre to the break point in the wet very often.

Wear.....not too bad, I managed around 15'000 twisty miles to a set of fronts and the backs last over twice as long.

HTH.

p.s, they look cool as feck too :P;)

:) Thanks for the input so far, think I am leaning more to the Parada Spec-2's, had the Toyo T1S's on a scoob (225/40/18) found them grippy but they wore very quickly, though T1R's are meant to be a bit harder, seem they still have soft shoulders going by the above.

In the tyrebay saw the treadwear figure on the Spec-2's was 300 as opposed to 240 or 280 for the T1R's, can't remember exactly so could be a bit longer lasting too.

Thanks again.
