vRS Fabia power loss/glow plugs

Featured Replies

I've had a problem develop with my 3 year old vRS Fabia this week which I hope someone can advise on. When driving, mostly at low speed, there has been a brief but sudden (less than a second) reduction in power, this being accompanied by the glow plug warning light briefly flashing. This has happened half a dozen times now over the past few days but otherwise everything seems OK. It happens when the engine is both warm and cold so can't see what the glow plugs have to do with it. The engine management light has not come on. Any advice welcome.

Glow Plug light is sometimes used as a secondary warning light, for instance it can illuminate when the brake pedal switch has broken.

Best thing I can suggest is a diagnostic check either at a dealer or by someone with VAG-COM. Lots of us have VAG-COM so have a look for the thread with the member map in it and maybe you'll find someone.

Thanks for that Stu. I noticed some VAG-COM cables together with software on Ebay and was thinking of buying one as it seems a useful tool for now and future. As they only cost about

As discussed many time on here you pay your money and take your chances.

Of course we would only advocate buying a properly licenced and legal copy of VAG COM with the propper interface,

You can buy a 'third party' cable that will function with the trial versions of the software which are free and you could also buy a software only license which is currently $99.

I'd get the real thing, or ask someone who lives near you for help ;)

The amount of dosh spent on improving VAGCOM makes it worth supporting it IMHO, and there are several here who have a genuine lead :)

I did that for future-proofing.

I only buy VAG cars. I have the Fabia, and a 2000 Lupo to look after, and bought VAG-COM when I had a 1999 A3. I didn't know what car was going to replace it, or when, but knew I would in a year or two: Later cars are CAN-only, so need the proper cable, and therefore a fully licenced copy of up-to-date VAG-COM.
