Maybe an answer to the fuel query

Featured Replies

Regarding the 220 miles to a tank query I have just had mine back at the 2nd hand dealer today to get it looked at and they claim* that it had a misfire so they have changed the plugs and it seems to have solved the problem. They say that nothing showed on the diag machine and if there was an error the warning light would be on anyway.

* I say claim as I am starting to have doubts about them I asked them if it had been on the diag machine and got a emmm yeah type of not the most convincing answer so who knows.

Do you guys think that this sounds a visable explanation

I rung my normal mechanic up who sometimes does work for the dealer anyway to confirm he had done what they saidut he hadn't had my car in today but he did say the misfire would cause it to use more fuel.

A faultcode doesn't mean a warning light will come on, although a missfire is one of the things that would usually put the light on. Whereabouts are you? Prehaps someone with vagcom near you could do a scan on your car.

Had a 16V with the light on showing a misfire, put new plugs in it and put the light out, took it for a test drive and it was still misfiring but it did not bring the light on. It had a little nick out of thr insulation of one of the plug leads.

My last car used to missfire all the time on the mway and the light used to come on but never effected the fuel.

I not convinced they found the problem at all.

Think I forgot to mention I have noticed that my stutter seems to have gone when changing into second could this be cos the inside was a bit clogged up with the missfire? or is it coincidence but the car seems to be driving a lot better.

Sounds like when we returned SWMBO's car to the dealers to get the air con fixed. They claimed to have fixed it (and they might even have regassed it), but as it was the evap temp sensor that had gone, it was still bu99ered when we got it back. Thank goodness for Brisky - fixed first time by yours truly! :)
