Sat Nav Confusion

Featured Replies

Just got an MFD2 off ebay, and the map is only a 2003 one. I'm looking to update it, but I'm a little confused as to which one to get. :o

The teleatlas site seems to talk about different types such as standard,DX, E and EX.

I'm guessing it's the DX one I need, but can someone confirm this as it could be a darned expensive mistake if I get the wrong one. I really could do with the TMC feature enabled as well.

Any help would be appreciated,

Cheers,

Martin

I'm pretty sure it is the DX one you need. I believe Ken O'Neil has bought the 2007/2008 disc. Might be worth a PM.

Thanks, I'll do that.

Martin

TravelPilot DX is what you need.

You have two options

2007/2008 With no TMC =

I've got the 2006 disk and noticed that the system displays fuel stations that simply don't exist! And of the ones that do exist, they're mostly not in the right place. Has that improved in the latest version?

Cheers,

Dave.

Cheers Ray, I'll give them a try

The petrol station data within the maps are known to be pretty out of date.

Hello, I went for the VW MFD2 DVD which works well, but with one exception: TMC the TMC continually say searching, I have seen a frequency shown once or twice but no info, does anyone know if this is because the Disc is not TMC enabled or should there be a second antenna on the other socket next to the standard FM aerial? I have found a MFD/RNS TMC cable kit on e-bay from poland but the connectors etc don't look familiar.

Best regards

I have TMC on my CD MFD2 with a TMC disk. Have you tuned it into classic FM as the TMC station? There is only one station that broadcasts in the UK.

Hi Stu, In the setup it only show automatic search type options and the radio stations are greyed out, I have tried running the main tuner on classic to see if that brings it in but no joy...

Did you connect a second antenna or just the std FM, I assumed as RDS TP functions share the single antenna that there wasn't a need for another but haven't found a good reason why it doesn't work where both Navman / TomTom and Audi RNS pick up TMC.

I guess it must be the disc blocking the function then, have to try another know TMC disc

Thanks again Stu

Although once true, this is no longer true for many reasons.

There are now (and have been for over 2 years) 2 TMC providers in the UK - iTIS (the service under discussion here), and Trafficmaster.

Until very recently it was nice and clear cut - iTIS used Classic FM, and only Classic FM, whereas most other local commercial FM stations broadcast TMC for Trafficmaster.

In the last few months, iTIS have signed agreements with a number of local commercial radio stations for them to broadcast the iTIS TMC signal to help fill in the gaps in the signal in certain areas, which means it's no longer as simple as "only tune into Classic FM".

However, in terms of this TMC service, tuning to Classic FM is certainly a good starting point.

I just get it through the normal FM transmitter. Have you got a manual?

Didn't know they'd got new stations - Any idea who??

Have you got a manual?
Nope, just a rather detailed passing knowledge of the subject.

Real Radio Yorkshire and Real Radio South Wales are already transmitting, and they've signed a number of new contracts giving them access to more local radio stations to transmit the signal. This is likely to include the GMG group of stations, which includes the Winter Hill transmitter in the North West (Century FM I think), which is a bit of a result for them - this radio station (pretty much the only local commercial radio station in the area) was broadcasting for Trafficmaster until Dec 2006, and Trafficmaster now don't have any coverage at all in the area.

The manual question was aimed at Bushman :P

Err,

does anyone get the extended text on RDS stations (like the info button on the Stream HU) ?

The manual on Stu's website says make sure the RDS option is set for variable which I've done but no joy. Also, I don't get the Traffic interrupt, even though it's set. It does record the messages, but doesn't stop the CD when they come in.

This wouldn't have anything to do with the fact I've not yet got the car re-coded for Sat nav would it? (Don't know anyone local that's got it, so I was gonna leave it till I can get the cruise done by Stu)

Cheers,

Martin

Sorted the TP messages (must be going colour blind, thought orange meant off), but still don't get the full info display on RDS stations. Any ideas anyone?
