sorry for sounding thick, but what is MAXIDOT?

Have you tried a search on Maxidot?

I know for a fact there are several threads running with pictures of Maxidot and some with explanations of the functions.

Try a search as Stu suggests but essentially it's a glorified trip computer which sits in between the speedo and rev counter.

It inegrates with other bits of the car as well, you can change settings for certain functions such as the way the central locking works (anji-hijack etc), shows the trip computer information, info from the stereo display, integrates with Sat Nav (if fitted) and Bluetooth Kit (if fitted).

The same sort of thing is fitted to other VAG cars, but they call it something different. Makes the car look like its worth a lot more than the couple of hundred it costs as an option. Someone asked if it could be retrofitted, I think the answer was no, not easily.
