New VRS need insurance

Featured Replies

I picked up my 05 Fabia Vrs, last night bought from a very nice Briskoda member, and i must say all the reports were right it's a great car.

The train journey down to collect it was 2 and a half hours, but the drive back was done in 40 mins

Well i have just been on the phone to the AA to try and transfer my policy and they have said they cannot get me a quote untill monday, because i told them that the car had upgraded brakes fitted, it also has a few more mods that i didnt tell them about as follows

Eibach lowering springs 25mm, fitted by Skoda Master Tech

Ibiza Cupra Air Intake, fitted by Skoda Master Tech

Green Panel Filter, fitted by Skoda Master Tech

Ibiza Cupra Strut Brace, fitted by Skoda Master Tech

Audi TT 312mm Front Brakes, fitted by Skoda Master Tech

So at the moment i am shopping around for insurance, but i am wondering if i should declare these mods ? has anyone else got similar mods that they didnt tell their insurance company about ? and heaven forbid in the event of an accident would they check for for all these things ?

Has anyone got any suggestions as to what insurance company i should use, and should i declare the mods ?

Many thanks MV

but i am wondering if i should declare these mods ?

yes

has anyone else got similar mods that they didnt tell their insurance company about ?

no mods for me [yet]

and heaven forbid in the event of an accident would they check for for all these things ?

quite possibly, afterall they're gonna try their hardest not to pay out

Has anyone got any suggestions as to what insurance company i should use, and should i declare the mods ?

Somewhere like Adrian Flux should be able to help with modified cars, couple of other good places too (mentioned before on this site) which I can't remember.

At the end of day, its your choice whether you tell them or not. But technically you wouldn't be insured if you didn't.

I have a Remap which is supposed to be undetectable so Ive kept stum.

I have also fitted a PD160 intake pipe which is a genuine VAG part anyway and looks standard.

If you have bits which stand out you dont have much choice than to declare it, or they may bite you in event of a claim.

try chris knott too, and greenlight insurance

Have had two quotes so far, all mods disclosed

Peformance Direct = 470

Adrian Flux = 403

Do these seem reasonable ?

Still got Chris Knott and Greenlight to try.

Thanks all

Depends,

How old are you and how many years no claims??

39 and 9 years no claims ?

Also depends on postcode, annual mileage, accidents, your job type, whether you smoke or not, what colour underwear you favour.....all sorts of stuff.

To be honest those quotes sound high to me as I'm paying less than that yet I'm 26 with 4 years NCB with no accidents yadda yadda. Mind you, I have no mods yet either. Were those quotes with mods declared or not?

Yeah thats with all the mods declared, without declaring the mods i got a quote from confused.com for 279

Anyway i went with Adrian Flux for 403, they were the cheapest i could find, i thought about it and decided that it was best to declare the mods, cos like has been said, in the event of a claim they would look for anything to wangle their way out of paying.

Now to go enjoy my new furby :D

Ahhh ok, in which case that's not bad. Be aware your excess may be high with AF. Also, they're only a broker so your actual insurance will be with another firm.

But, you're insured now so happy motoring! I'm sure the Furby will bring you oodles of joy. Mine still makes me grin 6 months in. Even more so when it gets leather soon. Rarrr..

Has anyone got any suggestions as to what insurance company i should use, and should i declare the mods ?

Many thanks MV

Try Chris Knott, I have just Paid

No you don't. You prang it and it's inspected the insurance comany will find it and suddenly your not insured.

You should declare all mods even if you don't care about yourself it's other road users you should consider. You think you are saving a few quid now but in the long run can you put a price on piece of mind?

You will find if there is a problem the third party is covered it would be mine that wasnt.
