Really annoying rubbing noise

Featured Replies

Not sure if this is in the right place or not but here goes. I have a 2000 1.4 8v fabia, recently (about a month ago) i had some kw v2 suspension fitted which has really improved the handling of the car and i am loving it, however a few days ago i noticed a rubbing noise coming from what sounded like the back of the car. I have now taken off the wheels front and rear to check if they were rubbing on the arch liner there was no evidence of rubbing on the rear arches however there was on the front arches. After raising the car to a level where the wheels cannot touch the arches it is still making the afformensioned noise, it is most noticable at higher speeds like on the motorway and when giving it a blast round country roads, so after all of this i as you very knowledgable people if you might know what is causing it because i am stumped.

Is the rubbing related to bumps in the road surface ?

nope the noise is constantthats why i thought tyres it also seems to be proportional to speed

Try jacking the car up under the suspension arm so the wheel is in its normal position (take care not to damage the arm). You will be able to rotate the wheel and see/hear what it rubs.

Is there an plastic engine try under the car?

May be this has worked less and at speed the wind is pushing onto ground or something else.

I had this with my other Octy.

Or something similar with the arch liner being loose at wind at speed pusing it into wheel.

When I fitted some 17"s with 205/50/17 tyres to my Furby, it rubbed on the rear left wheel

If you have a look in the rear left arch, the plastic trim to the right of the wheel sticks out towards the tyre just that little bit further than the opposite wheel :thumbdwn: . This was the cause of my rubbing.

Might not be the same as your problem but worth a look :P
