CanBus, wot is it, have i got it????

Featured Replies

hi me and a mate was looking at buying the vag com set up. i have a octavia 1.9tdi elegance on a late 2001 plate and he has tt 1.8 20v turbo 2001.

both have nigley little problems that just annoy like airbag light on etc and have come across this canbus system.

can anyone tell me if we have canbus on our cars and wot it does please:confused:

Neither of these cars use CAN for diagnostics. They may still communicate module to module using CAN but the diagnostics are not preformed by CAN.

See the Ross-Tech CAN Bus page.

Canbus is a new way of the different electrical components to communicate with each other and the ecu. Think of it as the difference between anologue and digital.

Both your octy and the TT are too old to have canbus. You're looking the latest new platform VAG cars having canbus for diag.

many thanks at least that is cleared up

as said, the Mk1 doesn't use CAN for diagnostics interface, but it does use CAN internally for inter-module communication.
