VRS TDI oil drinker...

Featured Replies

Hi,

my low level oil light has just come on my 2007 VRS TDI which i purchased new in March. i'v done 4,500 miles since then and i am surprized to see that i've potientially used so much oil in just 4,500 miles. is this to be expected? or is just one of the down sides to owning a VRS TDI?

would welcome feedback!

cheers

The TFIs certainly drink oil but not sure about the dervs. Probably worth keeping an eye on the dipstick in future though... :)

Diesels tend to use oil as they run in, probably up to about 10000 miles, after that it should get a lot better,

I agree. my 2.0TDI 140BHP seems to haved used a fair bit of oil until about 15K and now hardly uses any. This is why the manual states that the oil should be checked weekly and before a long journeys.

My 2.0 140 TDI has used 4x 1 litre tops ups in 22000 miles. Thats not far off 1 litre every 5000 miles so sounds about right to me.

The day I bought my Octy (Ex Demo) the oil light came on while I was driving home, at the time there was 6000 miles on the clock.

My 130 DTi superb drank a constant 1/2 litre every 5k miles from new.

At first service this reduced to almost nothing, so I suspect a slightly different oil was used.

Now it's back to the same 1/2 litre per 5k miles.

So don't worry, just enjoy
