Noisy exhaust

Featured Replies

My exhaust is making very noisy metallic rattling / buzzing sound (almost like loose heat shield) when I take the foot off gas, often changing down. Noise stops once I am on the gas again. I suspect it might be due to stupidly high speed bumps at work which often scrape exhaust. Tis definitely not silencer as this was replaced 3 months ago. It also only tends to do it once car is warmed up. Catalytic convertor ?

Anybody had similar problem ?

Sounds like it could well be the heat shield... i had a similar problem with my old citroen and had to re-bolt the heat shield up using huge washers as the bolts had broken through the holes of the heat shield.... jus get ur head under car and get someone to rev it a bit and have a listen where its coming from... have a tug around at things and see if owts loose.

Actually, with a silencer having been replaced a few months back, I'd suspect the alignment's slipped, or one of the mounting rubbers has come off. I used to be mates with the manager of a fast fit place, and these are the most common issues.

So if my heat shield rattles it can be re-bolted? Hmm I'll have to have a look.

May need spot-welding. It's car specific, and my friendship with the man (qv) pre-dates catalytic convertors.

get under car and shake it. shouldnt take to long to find.

i had tht problem, went garge an fixed it for free hardly gnna charge me for putting rubber back on but in saying that i had to buy new rubbers lol but that shud fix it :D
