1.6 AEE misfire

Featured Replies

Hi my Octavia has developed an intermittent misfire and its driving me mad. It happens at about 2000rpm when under load (can't get it do do it whilst stationary). I have changed the plugs, leads, rotor arm ,cap and coil pack but it is still doing it. Could it be the TPS or the MAP sensor? Where are these items located in relation to the throttle housing opening under the air filter? Any help please as its driving me mad!!! Thanks... does any one have a VAG-COM in Essex near Southend area to try to get any fault codes?

the tps is inside the thottle body.... the map sensor is on the left hand end of the intake manifold...

from the symtoms you mention i would suggest a faulty map sensor anyway

Thanks for the info. Is there anyway to test the MAP sensor or is it just a change and see?

Is it just an unbolt and unplug change or is it more involved than that?

it might be worth giving it a clean with some carb cleaner because tey are actuall quite expensive

Thanks for the info Teflon Tom. I removed the sensor (breaking one of the bolt heads in the process which had wielded itself in solid in the tapping) and it was quite gummy/oily. Before I saw your reply I cleaned it with a cotton bud and some meths and put it back in. Car seams to be running better now but I will need to give it a good run to see if its cured. Hope that the sensor now being held by one bolt only won't be too much of a problem!!!

If some of the bolt shank is still protruding from the manifold, Dose well with PlusGas, leave 30 minutes, then try and unscrew it with a toggle grip.
