I think the DPF will be a feature on all new diesels in time to come and more and more diesel models are coming with it as standard nowadays. Environmental laws will dictate tighter controls on particulates and the only way to cut the levels is with a DPF (or FAP if you are a Frenchie :P ).

With regard to the issues you have raised about the DSG gearbox your best bet is to wait for a techie to field any questions you may have, there are a few on here that know the DSG box inside out and will be able to give you a genuine opinion on it.

Failing that, a search of the forums will dig up a fair amount of past discussion on the DSG box.

The first posting got me a bit concerned " DSG clutch life around 60K ". So I did a bit of serching myself on the net and found an article by someone in the know who says differently, basically the clutches are designed to last the life of the car.

Still got the issue of the expensive transmission oil change. I believe takes about 7 litres of the stuff. Still the DSG does offer more relaxed driving around town. I also noticed that they do the DSG in VW transit type vans so with the abuse they are likley to get the engineers must be sure it is a durable gear box ? ( here's hoping )

I have been looking for tis all over the place, so the clutch will last the life of the car, good news as I was concerned about that. The limitation on power was interesting too, if I dragon box it and took it from 140bhp to circa 190 would it be ok?

dealer today, service manager was not sure on the oil change or clutch life so he went in to the workshop to talk to one of the lads.

It seems it's an oil change every 40.000 miles and

Oil and filter is every 40k for the DSG box.

Never had to change a DSG clutch thus far.

Thanks: Lex had not mentioned this and knew nothing when I called them( just done 42K).......... leasing companies!!!!!!!:confused:

VAG now check the DSG service history, if the service has not been carried out the warranty on the gearbox may be void and you dont want to be paying for one of those trust me.
