(ex)Wife has a 2nd Gen Nano. Can such a thing be charged using a cheapo generic usb device charger? Or do you need to buy something iPod specific?

Just might not give it a full charge.

I will now use one of these to charge my iPod, thanks mluton.

The problem with USB is that it only charges when the computer is in use; this is probably why he wants a seperate charger.

The original Firewire iPods were much better in this respect, as they can charge from the computer whilst it 'sleeps' and they came with a mains charger! Guess Apple wouldn't have the market share they have now though if they'd stayed with Firewire.
