Diagnostics and VAG COM (not advertising)

Featured Replies

Hi Soviet here,

By posting a couple of threads on this site, I have fallen foul of the rules regarding advertising, and my threads have been deleated, by the site owner. it is a good enjoyable site and so I will comply as asked by the site owner. (Colin D or Stu)

I actually found a cheaper place to get VAG-COM HEX-USB+CAN version 702 and so any one that would like details please contact me, by the member contact service, as I think that this is allowed. (If not, I'm sure that Stu will delete this also.)

I have not tried this supplier yet but I am going to, as the cost works out at £45 for my car.

My Car is an Octavia LX Mk1 2001 engine type AEE.

It was not my intention to advertise for this supplier,as I do not know of him from Adam, and it is not as if I have shares in the company. I was actually trying to help other Briskolians to get a much cheaper cable, instead of the 'RIP off' being charged by the popular American Suppliers.

I am going to order one, as I have ordered several things from the Chinese, that are a dammed site cheaper, and have never been let down once. I am prepared to risk it and then let you all know, for good or for bad the out come.

Thank you:thumbup:

Hmmm I wouldn't call the real cables a rip off. Remmeber the real cable is also the licence key for the software. Good luck but I bet it won't work with the latest software.........

Compare the price of VAGCOM against the dealership diag tools and they are VVVV cheap.

Hi

I have ordered one now, and may be that the real thing is not such a rip off, but I will see if this one works. It is version 704 which they say is the latest.

There is no going back now as my Pay-Pal order has gone through.

You may know this as I am no expert, but just trying to help others, to may be get a better deal.

Let me try it first, and we will know.

Regards

Soviet:rolleyes:

A cheaper deal doesnt always consititue a better deal.

As I've posted in one of your other threads, this will almost certainly be a counterfeit cable.

...and may be that the real thing is not such a rip off...

Normally we don't comment on "rip-off" statements, but you should be aware what the reality is. You want a tool comparable to the one your dealer uses as chap as possible. Your dealer pays at least 2500 EUR for his cheapest scan tool (VAS 5053), while the big ones (5051/5052) go up to 15000 EUR. These prices do NOT include software updates, which means this will cost him additional ~140 to ~3500 EUR per year. Now think a little about what you want and if the price you are talking about is reasonable...

...this will almost certainly be a counterfeit cable.

You bet.

We (Ross-Tech) and our distributors do not sell/announce hardware to be compatible with just one version - especially if the version number is obviously not current, one should be cautious since it's most likely a scam. HEX+CAN interfaces will always be around 330-350 USD and never be legally around 100-150 or even less - even used ones don't sell much less below new ones. Keep in mind that the software license is included in the price so the 100-150 would not work when you keep the "dumb/separate" license price of 99 USD in mind.

Hi,

Point taken, wrong terminology used in haste regarding rip offs. Will eat crow.

I will try it and see, and then if what you have said proves to be correct then I will say well, they told me so, and put it down to experience. If it is useless then I can always open a Pay-Pal dispute.

As Stu said, it is quite likely a counterfeit cable, but if it works, why should I worry?

Thanks for the comments

...but if it works, why should I worry?

Time will show you why you should be worried. ;)

Hi Seb,

I support my Company too, heavens knows why.

Its only £41 out of a £50 premium bond win up the spout ( maybe.)

So do ross-tech mind if these cables are used with their software?

Erm yes I think they do... but I'll let seb and guys confirm

Sebastian can you check your email please.

All interfaces which work with versions 5xx and newer are running a proprietary firmware and need a unique serial number/activation to make our software fully functioning. Now if you buy a 3rd party interface that claims to work with any of these versions it automatically has to violate our copyright since it wouldn't work otherwise (needs our firmware and activation to run).

So do we "mind"? Of course we do.

P.S.: For clarification, we have no problem with people using 3rd party hardware with older versions, that does not violate any copyrights.

Stu, email received - now would be the right time. :)
