Steering wheel stitching.....

Featured Replies

Well, I've just had my first problem on the new vRS.

The stitching at the base of the wheel has started to come undone, and the perforated leather is now peeling back from the wheel.

Has anyone else had this happen?

I'm in the process of getting it sorted, but it's not the sort of problem I expect on a 22 grand car :(

A piccy is attached.

That is just rubbish :thumbdwn:

That is shocking. :thumbdwn:

I did notice a bit of loose thread on mine at the weekend but i've not looked closely at it. I will be doing so as soon as I get it back from the dealers.

Seen a few like that, think yourself lucky, also happens on the 30k R32 and EOS..lol.

Andthe new 30k+ V6 EOS comes with an umbrella as you WILL at some point be needing it in the car.

Is there problems with them then?

That would seriously p!ss me off :(

You'd think that making a steering wheel wouldn't be that hard to do.

I'm somewhat consoled by the fact that the VW badge snobs ;) also get problems.

I did consider the Eos at one point. By the sounds of it, probably lucky I didn't take it any further.

It'll all get sorted under warranty, but it's annoying to be having to visit the dealer so soon after delivery. I guess I'll try and get them to sort the light assist out at the same time.

... when they replace it make sure it's a multi-function jobbie (if you don't mind 4 spokes) ;)

I prefer the 3-spoke wheel, actually.

As I'm going to be removing the Stream unit and replacing with a Pioneer satnav, I'm not too bothered about the steering wheel controls (I never used them on my Superb).

At least the service manager was prepared to order the new wheel on the basis of my photo, thereby saving me a 70 mile round trip to the dealer.

Should be fitted on Friday with any luck.

Did you 'catch' the stiching or did it unravel by itself?

I don't think it will stitched properly, and simply use of the wheel has prompted it to unravel completely.

Just got word from the dealer. The steering wheel is on back order, and they can't tell me when it will be coming in :(

Seriously annoyed now, as I thought this would be a relatively quick thing to sort out.

Being 'seriously annoyed' is a bit ott don't you think? I'ts only the steering wheel stitching afterall and you'll be getting a brand new one eventually!. Much that we want everything to be perfect sometimes there can be issues and providing they are dealt with properly by the dealer/manufacturer then asside from the inconvenience there is nothing to be annoyed about!.

I think the guy with paint issues on his car is entitled to be 'seriously annoyed' although he appears rather calm, at least the moment he is!. See the thread here.

Can I have the prize for "most right to being pi**ed off"?....

Each to his or her own, I guess, Makefish.

The reason I'm annoyed is because the dealer told me it would be coming in today, and would be fitted tomorrow. I've re-arranged stuff on that basis, and now it's not going to happen.

My frustration is mainly aimed at a Skoda supply chain that says one thing, and then delivers another. It's all about setting expectations appropriately.

I agree that my problem is nothing, compared to the troubles that Marwood is having, but I'm still entitled to be annoyed. For me, one of the things I like about the forum is that I am free to vent my frustrations and not be judged for it. After all, it's better to let it out here than by shouting at the missus ;)
