Aircon whine

Featured Replies

My 2000 fabia has developed an intermittent noise when the aircon is on. It whines and the pitch of the whine will increase as the revs increase. It is not noisy enough to really overcome road noise, but if I am stopped at a junction I can hear it, and the pitch will change as I rev the engine prior to pulling off.

Any ideas as to what could be causing it?

Thanks,

Rob

Sounds like the compressor's making a bit of noise. Not sure there's much that can be done short of stripping it down, but it may be worth getting it re-gassed, as the refrigerant contains lubritcant which presumably degrades over time just like any other lube...

Cheers to the RED's on there answers to my Initial question and about the stickers on the paintwork.

I will be purchasing shortly.

WTF??????????????

my compressor whines for a couple of minutes after the ac is switched off, I had a regass + oil but it made no difference, the ac guy couldn't really throw any light on it but i wondered if it may be 'one of those things'. everything works fine & dandy, SWMBO can't even hear it!!!

My new Fabia vRS does that and its definitly the Air Con Compressor. I wouldnt worry about it, as long as it works fine. I did ask the dealer a few weeks ago and he said it was perfectly normal.

What condition is the drive belt in?

Erm, wtf happened to my thread??

Thanks for the input. I've been getting a squealing on startup for ages, which I think may be the serpentine belt slipping - do you think this may contribute? I also haven't had it regassed, and it looks like i'll have to live with it or pay for t (used warranty doesn't seem to cover faults I actually get!)

Erm.... You been smoking something?

Whatever it is I wants some :D

On topic: I think its normal, my compressor makes a different noise when its turned on but only noticable when at idle, even then I normally turn it off when Im going slow and open the windows

My compressor on my 2006 Fabia makes a fairly steady whining noise - especially on low blower, mid cold settings. I think this is pretty normal.

OK, thanks. Looks like it's gonna have to be lived with. It just surprised me as it is a new sound; it never used to be there. Just have to turn the stereo up, and possibly get an amp for the speakers :D
