Vibration help!!!!!

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've noticed in the last couple of weeks, my car has developed a vibration. I've looked at the threads on here and mine seems to be diffferent. It is happening at a crawl all the way through to 70mph. It happens in gear and out of gear.

My tyres are very near to the legal limit (new wheels and tyres arriving in the next few days) and I filled them up today and the vibration still seems there but not quite as strong. I do remember the garage saying at my service that the tyres were wearing unevenly but not sure if this is a tyre issue, clutch, fly wheel, suspensin or even engine bracket.

Any help on this would be very much appreciated.

All the best

The tyres would be the logical starting point and it is going to do no good replacing other parts until these have been ruled out as the cause.

:iagree:

There was a funny vibration coming from SWMBO's car when we got it that turned out to be a flatspot on the NSR tyre. No probs since*

*except those posted about at length on here!

Forgot to add that at slow speeds the car almost wobbles (mainly in 1st gear when crawling in traffic) which can be felt through the not just the wheel but the whole car. At much higher speeds, this becomes a vibration which makes my cd cases clatter in the glovebox!!!

Hmmm.

I am thinking discs now...

Not sure, you will have to show us at the next meet

Sounds more like a bent wheel :(

Thats an interesting point. I bought the wheels of someone on here about 12-15 months ago and there was a vibration at 70 when accelerating (completely standard car at the time). It seems the same but right through the speed range now and not just at 70ish

Put the standards back on and see what happens.

Silly question, the studs are tight aren't they?

I have similar wheels to you and also noticed a slight vibration at about 70. I asked a mechanic in work and he said it may be because they're lightweight wheels! Sorry that doesn't solve your main problem tho!

Will check tomorrow eve - not driving to work tomor thank god!

i've had a vibration on a few cars at work , even driving slowly into the workshop you can feel it , do the service and i usually find a tyre with uneven wear or deformed , so deffo check your tyres (and wheels)

I have had a delaminated tyre years ago.....

some of the spurious cheapo tyres can be positively dangerous when it comes to uneven wear etc

Uneven tyre wear - Cavalier used to waggle a lot at low speed, less so at higher speeds. Asked mechanic - he took it out, was NS rear tyre.

Hi guys,

Thought you might just want to take a look at this - its a good job I decided not to take the car out until I'd taken all the wheels off and had a good look.

Got new tyres and alloys on now anyway and the vibration has gone!

Just wanted to say thanks for all your help and advice and it really goes to show how useful this site is.

All the best.
