Power steering

Featured Replies

Hi all,

This morning when I got in the car I turned the engine on and the power steering had completely gone. I started to reverse off my drive and it didn't come back on until i'd reached the end of the drive (which is a good 10 yards). It has happened before and im worried that it is leading to a complete break down of the power steering. :(

Is this nothing or a common problem. Ive done a search and can't see anything...

Im crap with engines etc so your advice is apprieciated!

How old is the car? The power steering has its own battery which has been known to lose charge with old age.

The steering doesnt have its own battery as such but it demans a high current drain from the vehicle battery so if thats not tip top the steering cuts out.

Plenty on the site about steering issues on the Fabia.

Sorry guys ive been away all weekend so havent seen this. Its a 53 reg...

A new power cable from the alternator to the battery complex solved this for me. Certainly a known weak spot on earlier Fabias. Something to do with the routing of the cable leading to chafing IIRC.
