Quick questions - cupholder and TT liner

Featured Replies

Hi chaps,

Looking at fitting the cupholder that sits to the left hand side of the stereo in the Furby (part no : 6Y0 862 531H 47H).

I was wondering, as I've fitted a non standard HU to the car (single din Kenwood) and used the facia plate from the dealer to fill the gap at the top, will the cup holder still fit ok and operate as it should?

Also, is this the correct colour for the dash? Onyx or something?

Don't want to waste

Hmm.....not sure I could do with losing that 'slot' (uhuh huh....slot :D ).

I put the GPS receiver in there when I'm using it and stuff. How big is the remaining slot with those cup holders in?

As for the arch liner, I might just get the B&Q version as it's a damn sight cheaper than

all i want to know is 1) can the standard flimsy cup holder hold a can of coke etc 2) can it be fitted to the drivers side aswell?

Fitting to drivers side will clash with steering wheel/stalk.

It takes up an entire DIN slot, the small slot above the holders will just about take a pen, but if you read the other thread there is another unit with a drawer where one of the holders is.

Onyx is the correct colour and this is where the cupholder fits, so you should be able to see from there if your fascia adaptor or headunit will foul that slot.

Hmm....been looking for a black one and can't seem to find one. I'd like it to remain subtle if possible. It may get mucky until the Karcher comes out. :D

How do the insurers sit with such a modification? It's not a power increase as such and it's not cosmetic either.

I think it's largley irrelevent with regards the insurance. It costs next to nowt and doesn't constitute an overall increase in performance.

You're not replacing any major standard components (exhaust, wheels, etc) so I wouldn't worry.

That's right, I'm cutting holes and slapping a air brick grill on the top! :D

Yup :D Otherwise you'd be getting into declaring what type of wax you use on the car!

IMO, premium-affecting modifications should be those that substantially alter the vehicle from the manufacturer's specification. Thing is, insurers would probably disagree and use any opportunity to get out of a claim :(

Well, it arrived this morning:

Looks like this

But the slot on the left is actually a drawer rather than a cupholder. Basically the guy on eBay sent the wrong one, but I don't think I mind. The drawer may come in handy. :D

Just got to get it fitted now.

If you need another cup holder instead of the drawer I have a spare one in my garage somewhere. Basically I have the version with two cup holders and decided to try fitting it elsewhere and managed to break the entire casing for the din slot, mind you the cup holder sections are just fine.

Don't forget the instructions in the other thread, they don't just go straight in

Thanks very much for the offer mate. Now that it's fitted I actually like the drawer on the left. Could be handy as I've lost the full slot that was there before. ;)

Yeah, I did follow those instructions. I chopped off both tabs at the front on the top using a hacksaw blade, but also had to modify the prong on the rear as it was a bit low to slot into the guide hole at the back. But, now it's in it's a tight fit and feels very solid. The cup holder feels like it could hold a stein glass. Brill.
