Towbar

Featured Replies

Just had Octy DSG Elegance estate delivered (capuccino beige metallic - very nice). I'd specified a towbar and had assumed that it would come with a removable one....

It isn't. Its a permanent one fitted by a local (to the garage) firm called "Car Concepts" in Aylesbury.

Is there a conflict with the rear parking sensors?

Could someone suggest what pertinent questions I should ask the installer re "enabling" (or whatever), CANBUS wiring, anything else please.

Thanks in anticipation.

Depends on the loom they use. I paid extra and had an Octavia specific one fitted (Still a Whitter though), and It seems fine, although I have never towed with it!

If you specified and paid for a Factory Fit towbar then that is what you should have had. That being the case it would have been a removable bar.

The rear parking sensors can be coded to take account of a towbar.

If it were me I'd be rejecting the car to be honest. It's something that really pi$$es me off. You aren't the first on here to be the 'victim' of such a thing.

I've looked back in my emails and, to be fair, I didn't use the word "removable" so I couldn't in all honesty reject it. Annoying nonetheless and I can't believe myself leaving it to chance.

Our extremely uncommunicative fleets person made sure that I never had anything to do with the sourcing of my company car. I didn't even know where it was coming from until yesterday when I HAD to ring them to ensure they provided me with a spare no. plate.

Looking at it positively, I suppose the bumper won't get "parked against" and our Mk 1 Octy has a removable bar which seems to be on all the time now!

PS the car looks extremely well in dark(ish) metallic grey (aka "capuccino beige" - who thought of that moniker and what were they doing thinking it?) with black interior. I'm also quite happy so far (2 miles) and the Stream is much better than I was worriedly anticipating - seems the same to me as the noise in the 170bhp Passat I tried (which had more road noise).

If it has been wired in properly the rear parking sensors should deactivate when the trailer board is plugged in. Only problem is when you are backing a boat down a slipway (assuming you're towing a boat!) and the beeps go constant.

No reason why it shouldn't have come with a FF version - which can be retrofitted by the dealer.

Not a boat. A little race Caterham 7. Going to Nurburgring in August!

Thanks for your help. Now I've got to work out how to set the system so all the doors unlock when I press the hoojamaflip - not just driver's. Aaargh - maddening!

I did the 'Ring' last August whilst the old timers GP was on - absolutely brilliant! If you want any tips or accommodation advice let me know. Also we found it to be the season of the 'pifilinger' mushroom, which is also good and appeared on all the local menus, providing you like mushrooms. Have fun!
