Its life Jim, but not as we know it!

Featured Replies

Hi Good old Soviet here.

Being a courteous and careful driver who believes in the sanctity of life, and that all living things are sacred, when driving, if I am approaching a cyclist on my left, I always do a mirror, signal, maneuver, when safe to do so, to let motorists behind me know that there is a cyclist there.

I always check my mirror after passing the cyclist, to see if the motorist behind me believes in the sanctity of life, and has bothered to copy my actions.

I find that only a very few bother, and the majority just swing out past the cyclist, with out warning any motorists that may be following them.

I know that cyclists can be thought of as a nuisance to some, but I hate the thought of a Lycra clad individual hitting the windscreen, like an over sized insect, with his head coming out his ***.

Are all the Briskolians as careful as I am, and believe in the sanctity of life, and the well being of our cyclist Friends?

Soviet(bring back the Gulags):finger:

I thought it was 10 points for knocking a cyclist on to the pavement?

As a (now rare :() cyclist, I do appreciate leaving good distance, and if I'm going quite quick, will go right over the other side of the road when it is safe to do so. When going slower, I'll perhaps leave 6 foot or so? It's supposed to be 2 metres, i.e when the cyclist falls to the right, they won't go under your nearside wheels. :)

Hi ya mate,

It is good to see a combined car driver come cyclist although a rare one. You are probably like me, and can see things from the cyclist point of view also, as I do cycle with the family at week ends.

If it was an ideal world then all would, would use indicators to pass cyclists, as the car driver behind may not have seen them.

Thanks for the info. on distances as I was not really that up in that.

Soviet.

I always give them plenty of room as I used to race on a bike years ago :)

I also had a mate that was killed during a race (his fault) :(

I think, if there is a way for Cyclists who ride on the 'road' they should have some type of test, as it's no different to a Moped, just silent.

I cannot stand cyclists, they annoy the hell out of me. The worst thing though, they always answer back, when you nudge the back wheel with your front bumper.

Hey all, saw this thread and had to reply because this is a subject close to my heart. Government statistics say that up to 46% of all road traffic accidents are caused by cyclists, I hate cyclists.

They have an entire pavement to use, and instead, they decide to use the road and cause accidents. Cyclists are all selfish and should be banned from going anywhere near a road.

My 2 year old boy had to spend 34 weeks in hospital because of a cyclist. I sped my car up to try and take the corner before the cyclist got there, and the cyclist just rammed straight into the side of my car, I slammed the brake and my 2 year old forgot to use a seatbelt.

So don't talk to me about cyclists! :(

3 winks of the indicator and bags of room is the order of the day.

I hate it when people try to squeeze between cyclists and traffic islands, the cyclist has only got to twitch and he's off.

With regards to hatred of cyclists, they have as much right to be on the road as us car users. They are not clogging up the road with a car and they are not pumping out CO2 either. If I could I would cycle to work.

Pavements are for Pedestrians unless otherwise marked.

I used to have a hatred of cyclists to the point of getting out of my van and running after one of them and I hate the fact they ALWAYS jump red lights but what are you going to do? shoot every cyclist on the road?

Give them a wide berth and let them get on with it.

I take it you are NOT being serious?

Only a d1ckhead would blame a 2 year old for not belting up - it's your job to make the kid secure and you should have been prosecuted for causing her/her injury. And as for suggesting cyclists should all use the pavement - where do the pedestrians go?
