Hi, Newbie Here, am I doing this right?

Featured Replies

Hi, Newbie Here,

I drive a 'y' reg Octavia Estate 1.9tdi and discovered this forum a couple of weeks ago when I experienced a loss of power.

After googling and reading up on people who had similar problems I replaced the mass air meter and realised just how much power had drifted away, it,s like driving a new car.

After that success I am now trying to sort out a problem with my wifes car!

My wife has had her new 'X' reg Fabia 1.4mpi for 3 weeks and has just discovered that the front passenger footwell carpet is soaking wet. I removed the glove box then poured water over the windscreen, after approx 30-45 secs a substantial amount of water began to drip from the bottom of the black plastic housing that I assume covers a fan ? I then tried to remove the wiper arms so that I could have a butchers under the plastic cover; I have got the nuts off but I cannot shift the wiper arms! I,m not paticularly handy under the bonnet but i like to have a go. Can anybody help me with the following:-

  1. Am I on the right track?
  2. If so, How on earth do the wiper arms come off (am i just being a bit weedy with them?)
  3. If not, can you point me in the right direction.

Cheers,

Pie Eater

Just keep giving the search a blast. I found most of my ansers there.

Possible blocked pollen filter on the waterside of things.

Welcome to Briskoda, Sorry your having a bit of trouble.

Im sure someone will point you in the right direction soon on here.

Hiya.

I'd agree that your water ingress problem is most likely a blocked pollen filter.

As to how to remove the wiper arms, the key is to realise that the arm to spindle joint is a "tapered splined joint". So what you need to do is:-

1) Mark where the wiper lies on the windscreen. Or not if you're like me, and will can see where it was from the edge of the dirty mark. ;)

2) Loosen off the lock nut a couple of turns.

3) Using a big screwdriver, lever up the arm until it comes free, which may be with quite a bang, which is why you don't take the nut off. It reduces the risk of scratching the paint on the bonnet.

4) Remove the nut, and lift the loose arm free.
