Wheel wobble when accelerating??

Featured Replies

Hi I have a mk1 octy 4x4. recently I have been getting a strange wobble on acceleration, and seems worse when going up hills. I am a mechanic myself, but it has been so wet here and I can't get it into the workshop yet. Ijust wondered if anyone has any similar experience or ideas?

I am almost certain it is not wheel ballence.

plz help, cheers.

not teaching you to suck eggs but all your wheel nuts are tight arent they??

yep tried that one, I'm thinking it must be a bush, but I can't get under it yet!

that was my next and last suggestion cant think of owt else except maybe balancing is out but you dont reckon it is so im stumped now m8

Mine did this on accelerating and braking. Slight shaking off the sterring wheel and adjustments needed when pulling off and stopping. It ended up being the balancing.

Maybe the wheels balance were on a dodgy machine.

Fingerplate balancing

Worked for me with similar problems

Could it possibly be a driveshaft problem as you say its worse when accelerating.

Did this ever get resolved? My 4x4 has just developed the same symptoms - wobble from the front under load/acceleration, particularly up hills (although that may just be because I have my foot down further).

I've recently had two new tyres fitted (on the back) and the tracking done, although there were no problems until I got as far as Switzerland on holidays - typical!

I'm having the tracking and wheel balance checked.

Somebody please tell me this isn't a symptom of a knackered flywheel - I've read a bit on here about them going, and it sounds like an expensive job.

One of the front wheels was way off balance - a 50 gram weight seems to have solved the problem.

Wheel bearing perhaps?

just had the same problem with mine, 1, tracking (still there) 2, balancing (still there) 3, bushes the 2 rear ones on the wishbone solved all the shaking, but the tracking had to be done again, got the bushes for
