hmmmm clutch slipping?

Featured Replies

my friend took my car for a spin about a week ago, and he went to pull away up a hill.... revved it like a bitch and the reves kept going up but the speed was really slow.... i dont seem to feel the effect as much as i guess i change out of 1st pretty quickly... he also said it felt quite... "mushy" rather than bitey it all worked smoothly rather than a bite and go kinda feel.... now is this the clutch? or soemthing? theres a bigger whirring noise now and im getting really annoyed with the noise in neutral!

how much will this cost by the way:P

Clutch slip is more apparent when flooring it at low revs in high gears, so I doubt it's that. If you want to check, stick it in top at about 30mph and floor it. Very little ought to happen, and most importantly the revs shouldn't rise by much...

But the fact that the car feels 'different' suggests something's happened... :thumbdwn:

mine did the same leon....

the release bearing had worn a groove into the pressure plate fingers and it made a horrible whirring noise

gearbox out and a new clutch assembly required by the sounds of things ,

cars done 81k now nearly... hasnt had any new breaks, still on original suspension bits, no gearbox stuff done to it yet... it will last til 84k when the service is due surely?:)

That's a fair life for a clutch.

the release bearing could collapse/break-up and cause more damage due to bits bouncing around the bellhousing,

plus do you really want to be stuck at the side of the road and have to have the car towed to the garage , do you have AA/RAC cover ?

hmm thats a good point, i got RAC yeah with Barclays. ill have it checked out tomorow.

he he that happened to my old car needed a new clutch and tried to hold out until I traded it in it finaly died in the middle of rush hour on the main rd in town the night before trade in day.

What a nightmare managed to block the traffic up in town until I finally got it pushed to a side street lots of burning and nasty smells as well.

Then turned up at my new dealers with it on the back of a tow truck whoops!!!!

That taught me to never try and hold out and get things done asap.

I think it's a common misconception now that dealers charge too much... Usually you can be very surprised by the costs and at least you know the work is done 'properly' (within reason) even if it does cost a touch more.

I think that may only be Elegances - so it'll depend what kind of Fabia you have!

elegance:P

the brake warning light is tells you the fluid is too low doesn't it?? could explain your gearchange problems too!

How to build a good relationship with your dealer - don't pay what you owe.

Cute.Very cute.
