Jerky DSG changes

Featured Replies

A question for those who know the DSG mated to the 2.0 140bhp diesel engine.

When I'm in start/stop traffic I find the down changes when coming to a stop to be abrupt i.e. going from 3rd to 2nd can produce a jolt, presumably as the revs are still quite high but I'm not sure.

Equally sometimes when going up from 1st to second in slow moving traffic can produce a bit of a lurch.

Has there been any updates to the DSG software? The car was only delivered at the end of April this year.

I have the same engine/gearbox setup. I have noticed just the same as you in the lower gears, so seems a characteristic of the gearbox. Excellent htough on the higher ratios 5th to 6th very quick and smooth. I supsect most of us driving a manual would drop the clutch approaching a stop rather than change down each gear in turn, the engine breaking going into 2nd I agree is noticeable. I don't know anything about software updates, maybe someone does ?

My DSG is as smooth as silk and I do not notice the changes going up or down at any speed - except when booting it in Sport or manual.

If its jerky I suggest you get it back to the dealer post haste as something is not right

I did a web search (probably should have done before posting!) and there are a number of entries from people with various Golfs, Audi etc and they report the same issue with their DSG.

A lot of the entries were around taking your foot of the gas just as the gearbox was changing and this does happen to me - you move along in the queue, get up a few mph then have to stop. I agree when on the move changes are silky and I have no issue there.

I think that is just it. The poor gearbox gets confused. They need to develop one that can see traffic ahead !

I agree if accelerating with a steady accelerator pedal, takes some beating

I find mine changes from 1st to 2nd almost immediately if crawling in traffic, and will stay in 2nd and 'slip' the clutch as long as I maintain a little bit of forward momentum. 1st to 2nd change can be jerky in traffic, but not too bad.

Yes - definitely feel it changing down to 2nd, but I suppose I'm used to it now.

39k miles down and I still think it's a fantastic gearbox.

No problem with mine when shifting up or down at low road speeds, perhaps your boxes need their shift patterns checked out, we used to have to set up the hydraulic transmissions to avoid erratic shift patterns.
