Better cornering

Featured Replies

after my Angel tuning re-map to 180bhp i've noticed that the car feels a bit unstable when cornering at speed, what is the most reccommended solution to this problem? I've noticed that jabba sport do an anti-roll bar which has some great reviews, does anyone know if this is the best way to go? I'm interested to hear what other members have tried, good and bad experiences welcome!

Jabba ARB would be my first option. Add to that a SEAT Sport Strut Brace and then if you are feeling really flush - Eibach & Koni FSD combo.

I would go for Eibach Springs possibly the dampers, and the Rear Anti Roll bar.

When my strut brace was fitted, it felt no different. :(

Also worth looking at tyres (oh, and the person behind the wheel! ;))

Agree with above. Start with the ARB.

Great bit of kit

As a minimum with a remap, I'd go with 312mm brake upgrade and Eibachs. As above, the rear ARB also makes a great difference.

Steve

The Eibachs on their own will increase confidence. Though assuming labour for the changeover, it's worth getting the dampers done at the same time. The Konis seem to be the weapon of choice.

IMO you need a rear ARB to balance the car properly.

The Eibach/Koni setup definitely, if budget allows.

I certainly wouldn't be running remapped power with a completely standard setup.

Steve

ARB was good for sure, much better handling through cornering, and it seems to have reduced front tyre wear a bit too when driving the way I do...

The Eibachs I had were springs & dampers. About 50k miles later I replaced the dampers by Koni FSDs - they are more forgiving mostly, and work well - as part of keeping the car in good condition.

Confidence in the car is much higher with this setup, it feels more planted :)

I am running a standard setup with my mapped furby and find it to be fine. Would love to do the eibach/fsd setup with a jabba rear ARB but being student this isnt going to happen yet ;)

With the standard setup I found the car very much not handling when cornering at pace, especially on slightly uneven surfaces.

The suspension definitely help with braking confidence too. The disconcerting nose-diving that you get when you brake a bit firmer on the standard suspension make you think you're slowing down hard, whereas it's just the nose dropping. Can get a little interesting that way ;)

Best solution is.......

Slow down, learn to power slide or learn to drift:P :P

Great for show boating but not the quickest way round a corner :P:rofl:

What about rolling?

and don't forget the cupra bushes as well !!

What about rolling?

With a decent SRM, rolling is a quick way through a corner. 4-point harnesses, decent seats and roll-cage recommended too :D

Woah... i'm not a petrol head guys, my knowledge of car mechanics is limited at best infact its just marginally better than SWMBO (but dont tell her i said that). Now, what is an SRM and how is rolling a quick way to corner?

Now, what is an SRM and how is rolling a quick way to corner?

I think Snoopie was taking the mick out of a few of the members on here who have managed to roll their cars. SRM is from Robot Wars and means "Self-righting mechanism" ;)

Have a read of the Advanced Driving and Racing techniques forum for tips on the best way to corner :D

Am I the only one on here who is totally happy with the way a vRS handles as standard?

Cant fault it at all... Done everything i have asked it to do with no fuss or anything. Just grips and grips.

Well, i can fault it slightly. The suspension is a bit too soft for my liking, bottoms out too easy on country roads...

Am I the only one on here who is totally happy with the way a vRS handles as standard?

The big problem I found with the vRS was the amount of pitching and diving it did under acceleration and braking which meant that there was significant weight transfer, meaning there was little traction under hard acceleration and the front brakes were overworked under hard braking.

I'd also recommend driving a car with the rear ARB as the difference in composure through a corner is marked and was worth a good 20-30mph through the open to tightening bends we put the car through.....

Chris

if youve had your car mapped then you need :arb = is a must, brakes = standards aint the best and with the extra power its nice to feel bit more response under braking, susspension = help pad the extra grunt the car will give.

Right, that's it, my minds made up, i'm going for the 312mm discs.... no wait a minute the, koni springy things, no fook it, i'll go all out and get me an SRM and take Robotwars 2007 by storm.

No seriously, i do fancy putting a jabbasport ARB on as its within budget and easy to fit and has such great reviews.

Is there any chance the guys in the know could organise another group buy please, a bit selfish but if 10 of us still want one then i'm doing you a favour by kicking it off.

Waddayasay?

Rear ARB made massive difference, Eibach springs / dampers did too (fitted at same time). Without the rear ARB (it was painted black) the car was handling reasonably well for the diving side of things, but with it back on, cornering was just much, much better :)

Expensive product? perhaps, but worth it :)

I think you may be.....I find it shockingly bad as standard to be honest.....I've a rear ARB, front strut brace and Eibachs and even still find it a bit wallowy for my liking. My Dads 7 year old Mondeo would give it a run for its money on a tight back road IMO.
