nine hours cleaning and results

Featured Replies

spent nine hours today cleaning my furby. well, i say nine hours- the bloody whether kept holding me up, one minute it was scorching, the next it was chucking it down.

My method:

Hoover interior and wipe all plastic trim with Skoda's own trim cleaner and microfibre

Wash exterior using Simoniz wash 'n' wax shampoo

dry using two microfibre towels

meguiars clay bar

polish using AG Super Resin Polish and applying with a meguiars 6.5" pad on a wickes random orbital sander

Add AG Extra Gloss Protection

Megs Gold Class Liquid Wax

Clean windows with Mr Muscle Glass Cleaner (great stuff) and a microfibre towel.

Ended up spending

9 hours, i went for over 3 hrs and after a hour and a half was starting to wish i hadnt started but had to go on as i couldnt just half do it. Still the thought of "wash and spray wax for the next month or few" made me realise that no pain no gain ;-)

That is a nice finish mate!!!

its not bad. just doesnt look as shiny as other ppls cars on here though :(

threw a right wobly whilest cleaning. just started to apply wax and it started to rain real bad. course i tried clearing wax up but instead smeaered it all over the shop. soon as it stopped raining, mr sun came out and started to dry all the lovely beads of water on car meaning i had to hose it down again etc etc *sigh of relief now its over*

yeah know what you mean, as i finished mine yesterday it started to spit and the front and rear windows reacted to the spots and the window cleaner i had use and left like wax spots on the screen :-( rest of the car looked ok.

Looking good,

You could save a little time by not drying before claying. Always worth washing again post clay session then dry off.

Megs Gold Class gives a nice finish quite warm but it won't last long 2 months tops.

If you layer the EGP after the SRP it will be more durable, make sure you leave 24 hours between layers then you can layer the wax on top of EGP.

Megs Gold Class and Tech wax are probably the best waxes available from Halfords.

Good results and amazing turn around.

What are EGP and SRP?! I wanna paint clean, polish, extra gloss protection and wax my car soon. (In that order).

One coat of polish, one coat of polish, one of extra gloss protection and 2 coats of wax?

Was going to hit it up all on one day.

SRP is Super Resin polish

EGP is Extra Gloss Protection which is a sealant,

Both can be layered but for best results from the EGP 24 hours between the first and second coat is recommended to let the first coat bond and cure properly.

EGP is specially formulated to bond on top of SRP and can react funny with other polishes.

Meguiars do a good paint cleanse which can be used with or in place of the clay, works well between claying sessions It's part of their 3 step cleaning system of which part 3 the wax is a waste of time.

HTH.

Car looks good but I'd have used two coats of AG Ultra Deep Shine instead of the Super Resin Polish. And as said above, I'd have sealed it all in with the Extra Gloss Protection. Best way of describing it is like women's nail varnish lol. Leaves a synthetic seal over the car and lasts for ages too.

many people say put one coat on and then do another the next day. I would do this but the following day the car looks dirty again :(

Very nice BUT you rubbed too hard on the number plates ;)

Nice job, but lots of hard work.

One thing that's puzzling me..... I understand the urge for alloy wheels, but why have you still got the VW centre caps...

I realise this may be an obvious answer, and I dont have a Fabia, thought I would ask anyways out of curiosity.

its only a temporary thing. bought some skoda centre caps and they dont bloody fit. thought vw and skoda would be same size but apparently not. need to sell them now and when i can be bothered, looks like i'll have to buy the stickers instead cos i cant get hold of the right size caps.

dunno if thats the obvious answer you were looking for:)

Now I feel completly stupid and wish I'd never asked.... I honestly thought you would have said you are waiting for new replacement caps - I can't believe they are different sizes. No wonder cars are still so expensive, when a lot of smaller things can be more universal

Good luck with the wheel hunt - there must be some bargain ones somewhere ? And looking at the condition of the VW ones they will sell pretty easy to someone looking to replace some steals?
