1.9 tdi 4x4 - first service?

Featured Replies

Hello - this is my first posting, and I'd like some advice please. I bought a new Octavia 1.9 tdi 4x4 estate in May 2006 - I'm absolutely delighted with it - it goes like a rocket, sticks like velcro to the road in all conditions, I can get 700-odd miles on one tank doing a steady 70 on the motorway, and it carries a great load. I added zenons too, and a few other things. Who could ask for anything more? It's in highland green, and not unlike Thunderbird 2...

I'm only just about to complete 10,000 miles - the manual tells me that the dashboard will alert me to when my first service is due. Can anyone tell me roughly when this will be please?

My first service was at 18,000 miles. I only get 500 miles per tank, having said that I was getting 64 miles per gallon this mornning but that was at 45 mph!!!

I'd imagine your on variable serviceing rather than the 10k fixed 'option'...

I've just hit 8k miles in my Golf (same engine, 1.9 TDI 105hp)), and when I checked today its indicating that I've got another 8.5k miles (or 533 days) before I'm due a service.

Best bet is to confirm with your dealer if your on the fixed or variable service

Edit: BTW, Im getting 600 per tank :)

Thanks for the advice, both of you. I may add that the 700 miles was in almost perfect conditions - constant speed of 60-70, with almost no slowdowns, and is NOT typical! My usual average, even for long journeys, is a good bit less.

Try this: Get into your car, push the little button below the Maxidot (the one you use to reset the trip with) and HOLD it down. First it Zeroes the trip reading but as you keep it pushed the trip comes back and the maxidot shows: Next service in XXXX km(miles) or XXX days.

You don`t need to use the key to do this.

Remember your DSG will need an oil and filter change at 40k :)
