How much leniency/tolerance on first service

Featured Replies

Hi,

My Fabia 1.9 is just coming up for its first service. I booked it for this week but due to an extra "long distance" journey it's now slightly over 10,000. I'm guessing that it will only be a few hundred miles over the recommended interval, but I don't want to invalidate the warranty!

I did ring the dealer and ask, but the girl on service reception said "well - it really needs to be at 10,000 miles exactly!". (Presumably most of their customers have better planning skills than me or just park up and call for a tow to the dealer at 9999 miles!?! :) ).

Does anyone know how much Skoda allow as a tolerance? I can't find it anywhere!

Also, my manual says that a service interval light will appear when the service is due...however, no light has appeared. Is this a fault? Or does it not appear on fixed interval (GC0)?

Many thanks - and apologies if I've missed the answer in my searches!

I believe 1k over is perfectly acceptable, so don't worry too much :D I suppose Skoda say that the light comes on 1k ahead of when it is needed so you should be able to get it booked in on time ;)

I have never seen any service light come on before my motor has been serviced. No spanners,no nothing.

Wow!

Thanks for the quick reply folks. That really was fast - and both questions answered.

I'm more relaxed already! :D

I'd not, but now (on the octavia) it reliably counts down to needing a service 1,000 miles before I think it ought to to (i.e. it came on at 28,000 telling me i needed a service at 29,000, at 38 for 39, 48 for 49)

No idea why, esp as it always gets its service within a dozen miles of the X0,000 mark (good planning)

I've got a "miles to service" spanner coming on and a "days to service" little clock.

It says I have 118 days to go or 200 miles - does that mean I will have to park the car up for a few months before I can take it in for a service :D

I guess that I'll have to ask the dealer when I drop it off whether I should expect a spanner!

As for you Philip, it's just a run to the local shop and back every day! Sorry, but computers are never wrong! ;)
