Tempted to buy 528i.

Featured Replies

54,000 miles, 2000W, leather etc fsh from my local BMW dealer.

For the same price i could get a newish RS, :( cant make up my mind.

Having had my RS twice  i dont know if i,d be making a mistake getting another, that said i want a car that puts a smile on your face.

Anyone know anything about the 528i?

Also i've not had a great deal of luck with Skoda lately.

528i?

Slow, heavy, gas guzzler. Even worse with an auto box.

Remapped RS will hammer it every time, come to think of it a standard one will probably do it too ;)

I'd go with 530D rather than 528i

The 525 is a nice comfy cruiser, I'd imagine the 528 is the same but better... :D

Depends what you want...the vRS will be more exciting to drive, the 528 will be nicer for motorway cruising. I'd imagine the 528 will have higher running costs too.

:iagree:

Edited to say if I were going back that many years, I'd probably even rather have a rapid ;)

The 5 series is about to be, or has just been replaced by newer model. Depreciation will be heavy on the older ones. The RS on the other hand is not being replaced till 2006 ish, and is continuing in production alongside the new octavia.

The new 5 series is one ugly car. I saw one on the way home on sunday. A truly awful car.

Steve,

If it's of any help, I actually chopped in a 525i in order to get my vRS Octy. The Octy is better built, quicker and people don't think that I am a nob / lemming for driving it....... Get the Skoda, you know it makes sense...... :D

Go to an Auction & see what the BMW's are going for, Depreciation on the Petrol ones is frigtening !!, Also with the exception of the sportier 5 series they are a bit of a barge to drive. Nice cruising car though

I toyed with the idea of buying a 5 series myself.

Granted, I only drive a lowly 2 litre Octavia, but heres my two pen'neth worth....

Octavia - Matches the bm on interior fit /build quality. Outside quality also matches, if not better - tighter shut lines.Ok, so the materials might not feel quote as plush, but you use a car to drive, not to host an interior design fair.

Bm takes the pole on driving position - it's lower than my Octy, but then, the low slung position isn't all that great on a distance i found. A bit worrying that i felt like having a nap half way to birmingham doing 75mph........

Bm loses out heavily on fuel consumption, poor image (no one lets you out from a side street and everyone blocks you every chance they get) and VERY expensive dealer servicing and parts (two new front tyres sir? That's
