Shell V-Power Diesel

Featured Replies

Hi

I passed my local Shell garage last night and noticed they were upgrading some of the diesel pumps to be V-Power ones (101.9p per litre).

Is anyone running their car on V-Power Diesel? I know the sites are mainly in the south but has anyone been using it consistently (ie every tank) for 3 mths + so can vouch for its abilities?

(As an aside, I ran my Type R on petrol V-Power and without having it remapped achieved an extra 3 mpg on average.)

Apparently it's good stuff. The kitten that was killed due to lack of search evidence is pointing at several threads previously extolling it's virtues, but just like so much on here lately it's a thread that happens every few weeks and never reaches a conclusion.

That would be 7p per litre more than I pay locally to me and 21.9p per litre moret than I pay for Bio. If your looking for a similar effect then that extra 3 mpg is going to cost you over 32p.

Check your tyre pressure and get some Millers and you will save a lot more.

I'm already using Millers!

I would also expect more than an extra 3 mpg . . .

Yeah I get up every morning expecting to find my wallet full of cash. Never happens :(

V-Power is supposed to work but you will never get much over that. I have tried it all at one point or another and there is no miracle fuel.

It could be worse, you could live near a BP garage...

Diesels have no way of sniffing the exhaust gases like petrols do and so you don't benefit anywhere near as much from the type of fuel you use....it's mainly the detergent effect that gives the benefit.

It'll always inject a set amount of fuel based upon engine temp, throttle, load, intake temp etc. There is no lambda reading. This means that you could be running it on snake oil and it wouldn't matter......well, apart from saying bye bye to your injectors. :D

I'll give it a go when its available round here but i'm not hopful of feeling/seeing any difference to make it worth the extra cost.......
