Changing the coolant in 1.9 TDi

Featured Replies

Hi there

Are there any hidden hints/tips when changing the coolant on my 1.9 TDi (90hp)?

I have G12 from the main agent.

Are there any hidden bleed screws?

Where is the best point to drop the coolant from?

Many thanks

Ian

If i remember correctly there is a drain plug at the bottom of the radiator, where the main hose goes in. (Right hand side if you are looking into the engine bay from the front)

Think you give it a quarter turn & pull (in towards the car) and watch you shoes - it retains it's self, so just push in & turn to seal it up again.

I'm not sure if there is a drain plug in the engine though.

Hope this Helps

I've been told that in the VAG TDI's the only tim eyou need to change the coolant is when you do the water pump. It's not like it used to be with changes needed every 2 years.

/\ I've had the same advice, but figured that 4 years was long enough. It's not like fresh corrosion inhibiters are going to do any damage.

But at 4 years you'll be doing the TB won't you ? ... you should change the water pump at the same time.

Not when the FDSH says the belt was done at 3 years old (mid 50k miles) I wouldn't be!

And they didn't do the water pump at the same time ? Strange, though I suppose a stealer is after making as much money as possible.

I didn't own the car then, don't have the relevant invoice, and also wasn't aware of the plastic impellor water pump issue.
